1. The laying of polymer roll materials is carried out in accordance with the project, which indicates the configurations and sizes of panels, their location on the bottom and slopes, the orientation of the field seams. Each panel has an identification number that corresponds to the panel number on the group layout.
2. Laying of plastic sheets should not be carried out during heavy precipitation, in an area with standing water, or during strong winds.
3. The method and equipment used for laying polymer roll materials should not damage the panel and the surface of the base. It is forbidden for workers to walk on the surface of polymer materials in shoes, which may damage it.
4. To exclude the effect of wind and the formation of windage, it is necessary to temporarily load sheets of polymeric materials with bags of soil or car tires.
5. Rolled polymeric materials are laid freely, without tension, with an overlap of 100 — 150 mm.
6. The movement of vehicles on the laid polymer material is prohibited. The surface of plastics should not be used as a work platform.
7. Welding work should be carried out at an air temperature from -25 to + 40 ℃.
8. The welds should be oriented parallel to the slope, i.e. oriented along rather than across the slope. Horizontal seams on the bottom of the section must be at least 1.0 m from the bottom of the slope. Information about the seams is recorded in the welding production log.
9. Joining of rolls of polymeric materials into panels should be made by resistance or extrusion welding with the formation of an overlapped or T-shaped seam. Butt-welding of sheets is not allowed.


Geomembrane assembly

Before carrying out the installation work, a PROMGEOPLAST specialist comes to the object and carries out the acceptance of the surface base and the readiness of the object for laying the geomembrane according to the Base Acceptance Act.

Requirements for the acceptance of the underlying layer

1. The sub-base should be 0.3 to 1.0 m thick soil according to the design, taking into account local building experience. The subbase soil must meet the requirements of paragraphs. 3 of (СП 39.13330.2012).

2. The device of the underlying layer should be ahead of the work on laying and welding of rolls of polymer cloth by no more than two shifts.

3. Measures should be provided to prevent the formation of water accumulations on the surface of the underlying layer.

4. The prepared surface of the sub-base should be smooth and free of debris, roots and sharp stones, organic matter, rubbish or other material that could damage the panel. The base must be compacted in accordance with the design documentation. The appearance of signs of swelling or swelling of the soil is unacceptable. Such defects must be repaired.

5. An anti-filtration device made of polymer roll materials is allowed to be laid on a natural base, from soil that meets the requirements of the chapter СП 39.13330.2012 (SNiP 2.06.05 — 84) and section. 3 of these Recommendations, with obligatory planning and rolling it up to its design density. There must be no foreign objects on the surface of the rolled base that can damage the panel.

6. Quality control of the sub-layer should consist in a thorough examination of the surface in order to verify its compliance with the requirements of paragraphs. 3 (СП 39.13330.2012), 6.8.1 and 6.8.4 of these Recommendations and control measurements of the layer thickness. On an area of 100 m2, at least two measurements of the layer thickness are made.

7. The passage of machinery and vehicles on the prepared subbase is prohibited.

After acceptance of the surface, PROMGEOPLAST specialists go to the work site.

Installation methods


Installation of geomembrane sheets is carried out by the thermal method, the "heated wedge" method.
The wedge heats the panels at the point of contact, above the melting point of polyethylene. Pressure rollers create the required welding pressure. the opposite end of the seam, air should come out of the seam with cotton.

As a result, the process of diffusion of polyethylene molecules in the contact zone occurs, and a weld is formed. The welding temperature is maintained automatically.
Each weld is tested and a welding log is kept.

The process of resistance welding of polymer roll materials consists of the following operations:

  • Rolls of polymeric materials are laid with an overlap with overlap of the edges of the edges by 10-15 cm, without wrinkles and folds.
  • Cleans the seam area from moisture, dust, dirt, any kind of debris.
  • The welding machine with preset welding modes is installed at the beginning of the seam and turned on. Moving along the edges of the laid panels, welding is performed.

Checking the seam tightness is carried out by supplying excess air pressure to the test channel (not earlier than 1 hour after welding) in the following sequence:

  • a fitting with a pressure gauge for air supply is connected to one of the ends of the seam;
  • air is supplied and the «permeability» of air along the entire length of the seam is checked;
  • the opposite end of the seam is clamped, compressed air is supplied under the required pressure for one minute;
  • The air supply stops and the seam are kept under this pressure for 5-7 minutes. The seam is considered to be tight if after 5-7 minutes the pressure on the seam drops by no more than 20%. When opening the opposite end of the seam, air should come out of the seam with cotton.



This welding method is used in the places where the geomembrane is adjacent to the supply pipes, adjacent structures and to repair damage to the impervious screen. In extrusion welding, molten polymer is supplied (under pressure) to the weld zone.

The surfaces to be welded pass into a viscous-flowing state, and welding occurs due to the pressure of the melt. A polymer rod made from polyethylene of the same grade as the geomembrane is used as a filler material.
The strength of the welded seam made using the above methods must be at least 80% of the strength of the geomembrane.

When performing extrusion welding, the following sequence of operations must be observed:

  • Polymer panels are laid with an overlap with overlap of the edges of the edges by 10-15 cm, without wrinkles and folds.
  • Before starting welding, the welding machine must be free of melt.
  • Cleans the seam area of moisture, dust, dirt and debris.
  • Temporary tacking of panels is carried out with a hot air apparatus.
  • The surface of the sheet should be abraded at least 10 mm from the seam edge no earlier than 0.5 hours before welding. The ends of all connections made more than 5 minutes. back, before starting new welding work must be ground. Grinding depth should not exceed 10% of the sheet thickness.
